T’Wolves earn split with Aeros

With the exception of a second period in Edson they’d likely want back, the Hinton Timberwolves had a solid opening weekend with a split against the defending division champions the Edson Aeros.

Hinton opened the scoring Oct. 4 in Edson and held a 1-0 lead at the first intermission, but the wheels fell off in the second period with the Aeros scoring five unanswered goals en route to a 6-3 win.

Jamahl Eakett had a goal and an assist in the opener, while Mario Decapite and Brendan Auger also scored and Dorian Hall and Max Sturko added an assist. Carter Wickson started in net for Hinton and made 24 saves before making way for  Adam Robertson, who made 23 saves in relief.

The Timberwolves spotted Edson a 1-0 lead the following night in Hinton, but scored five unanswered goals of their own – including three on the power play – to take the second game by a 5-1 score.

Auger had another big night with two goals and one assist, while Dimitri Buttazzoni had two goals and Jamahl Eakett had his second multi-point game of the weekend with one goal and two helpers. Hall and Ilya Zhilinsky had two assists while Dawson Basnett, Bryant Joseph and Sturko had one assist each.

Robertson went the distance in net for Hinton, making 21 stops.

The Timberwolves have a triple header this coming weekend starting with a pair of games against the Barrhead Bombers on Oct. 11 at 8 pm and Oct. 12 at 7:30 pm.

Barrhead opened its season with a pair of wins, outscoring the Cold Lake Hornets by a combined tally of 21-4.

The weekend action closes with an Oct. 13 home game against Edson at 2 pm.
