Crescent Valley Elementary School (CVS) is starting next school year with a new principal.

Current principal, Robin Hengel, has accepted a different position within the division for the 2020/2021 school year, stated Carolyn Lewis, CEO and superintendent of Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD).

Lewis stated there is no impact to the current school year as it is business as usual.

Hengel became the principal of CVS in September 2018, swapping schools with Kurt Scobie, who moved to École Mountain View.

Replacing Hengel for the fall of 2020 is Rod Armstrong, who brings an extensive background in educational administration from the Peel District School Board. Armstrong graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE). He has additional training in special education, and has experience at both the elementary and secondary levels.

CVS provides programming for 345 students from junior kindergarten to Grade 7. Trustees and the school council chair were part of the selection committee.
