Teck Resources Limited announced June 29 that Cardinal River Operations has now entered care and maintenance with the last steelmaking coal being mined and processed.
“After 51 years of mining at Cardinal River Operations, our employees have successfully built a legacy of responsible resource development. I would like to thank all the Cardinal River employees for their contributions over the years and wish those leaving the operation all the best in their future endeavours,” said Ryan Amundrud, acting general manager, Teck Cardinal River Operations.
Teck is grateful to its employees, suppliers and communities for more than half a century of support during active operations.
“With closure we are now focused on building on our ongoing reclamation of the land for the use of current and future generations. We are excited and committed to collaborate and engage with First Nations, local residents, hunters, conservationists, recreational users and others on reclamation and closure planning, and the execution of those plans,” said Lisa Risvold Jones, project manager for Cardinal River Closure.
Teck will continue to support the workforce and be an active part of the community through this transition.
